Name: Amber Renquist (Ren … quest)

Race: Half-Elf

Age: 32 (Appears to be 19, or around there.)

Sex: Female

Height/Weight: 5’10″ / 111 lbs

Class: Sorcerer/Summoner
-Specialization(s): Summoning Magics, Elementals, Magic Seals/Circles, Destructive Magics

Appearance: Amber’s hair sticks out the most, out of all her features. The color of cotton candy, the majority of it is pulled into a large ponytail that goes down past her hips, ending around mid-thigh. Wild and unruly, it’s almost spiky, refusing to be tamed by even the strongest of hair brushes. Her eyes are a vivid shade of vermillion red, and are the reason she got her name in the first place. Her clothes are slightly flamboyant, consisting of a pair of baggy red pants, similar to the kind a monk or martial artist might wear. She also wears a short-sleeved blouse, the collar decorated with teal and light blue stripes. Over that, she wears a white leather vest that has large tails, like a tuxedo, that reach down to her heels. On her left wrist is a bangle made of a red metal that is inlaid with an assortment of aquamarine gemstones. On her right wrist, there is another bangle, this one a simple solid gold and larger than the other. She wears a pair of glasses with thick, oval shaped lenses.
-Identifying Marks: Her ears are only pointed on the upper part of the cartilage. The lower part of her ears looks more like a human’s, denoting her mixed human and elf birth.

Equipment: Amber carries an assortment of small scrolls, a simple oak staff, and a sack that she keeps her things in while traveling. She’s rarely ever found without her bangles, which she received from her mother.

Personality: Amber has a rather shy, reserved personality. Even though she looks younger than she is, she acts less like her appearances, and more like her age. She’s still an adult at heart, despite the fact she looks like a teenager. However, when it comes to magic, she’s as serious as they come. She has a real, no-nonsense approach to her art and rarely ever gives up on a spell she can’t figure out until she’s able to cast it. She can be a bit of a bookworm and is a bit reluctant when it comes to things outside of magic. She’s also a very, very shy and timid individual. She has little experience with the world at large, having not been beyond the boundaries of the Academy in all her life. This makes her seem rather naïve, despite her intellect.

Biography: Amber Renquist was born to Hlethiar Renquist, a well-known Elvish Ranger who once helped a veritable army of other rangers slay a rather large and angry Forest Wurm from eradicating an elven city and a few human settlements. Her mother was Alicia Fyrean, a mage and sorceress of elemental magics who, unlike many who were as skilled as she, never set foot inside the Academy once in her lifetime. In fact, even though nearly all of the women in the Fyrean family over the last 500 years have all had noticeable magical skills as mages, very few opted to attend the Academy. Instead, Alicia worked as a diplomat of sorts, traveling between the many spartan Draconian settlements along the border of Andrenor, as well as Elven villages and towns in Trellyn. It was there that Amber’s parents first met and the two, at first, admired one another from a distance. Hlethiar was of noble birth, and was to succeed his father as the head Ranger in his home city. Alicia, on the other hand, came from a middle-class family, with no nobility in her to speak of. Still, they were both almost captivated with the beauty of the other.

“Lord Hlethiar? What’s troubling you? You seem to be preoccupied with something.”

The young elven ranger was gazing at one of the nearby buildings, the setting sun just barely beginning to slip behind it. On the balcony of the building’s second floor was one of the most beautiful women Hlethiar had ever seen.

“N-nothing. I was just watching the sunset, that’s all.” The young elf averted his eyes from the human woman who, in his opinion, was just as beautiful as a sunset.

“Well, your father has asked for you. Better hurry along, sir.”

Alicia left the forest soon afterwards, which disappointed Hlethiar. However, news came that a large Wurm had come out of the depths of the forest from the south. The same direction Alicia had left in. With a party of no fewer than 500 others, Hlethiar rode with his comrades to track and kill the beast before it could reach any settlements. They were met by a hunting party of about 100 Draconians, who had also heard of the Wurm and agreed to help. After a day of searching, they were able to find it and slay it.

The Wurm was tough. There was no doubt about that. Hlethiar’s arrows did little to the creature’s rubbery hide. Swords and axes were little more than flesh wounds. Spears were just larger arrows, barely painful. Still, their sheer numbers began to take their toll. The Wurm thrashed about again, sending the Elves and Draconians clinging to it flying once more.

“Just keep attacking! Don’t let up! We’ll wear it down!”

One of the Draconians was swallowed whole, only to be spit back out again as he dealt a lethal blow with his spear to the Wurm’s gut. The acidic bile in the beast’s stomach and blood began to eat away at the creature’s own body. The Draconian, on the other hand, had his scales melted off. He was a veritable mess, and it was impossible to move him without causing him an agonizing amount of pain. Eventually, one of his brethren eased his suffering with a spear to the head.

Alicia’s caravan had been attacked, many of its members killed when the Wurm came up from under them. Thankfully, she was only lightly injured and Hlethiar took her back to his home to rest. Having a valid excuse to stay at her side and talk, Hlethiar found himself smitten with Alicia. To his delight, the feelings were mutual and Alecia stayed for a couple of years. Despite the initial objection of Hlethiar’s parents, they saw an almost Elven level of magical ability in Alicia and did nothing to prevent them from seeing one another. It wasn’t long after that Alicia became pregnant. Hlethiar received permission to leave the forest with his new wife, and the two moved to the Academy city.

Amber was born not too long after the couple settled into their new home, Hlethiar helping the Academy with magical beasts, and Alicia working as a part-time instructor. When she was three, Amber displayed the first signs of being a mage, namely splitting headaches that would occur with no real physical or mental symptoms. She was promptly enrolled into the Academy and, due to the fact she was caught so early on, developed her basic skills rapidly. By the time she was eight years old, she was casting her first spells. Just simple ones, like levitating small objects and such. When she was ten, she discovered something interesting while sitting by the hearth at home. She could speak to the fire. Rather, the fire elemental dwelling inside it. She learned she had an uncanny ability to communicate with Elemental spirits, and after only a few years of training as a summoner, could call forth elemental sprites using only a scroll and an inscribed spell circle.

A cheerful Amber bursts into her house, shouting happily, “Mama, mama! Guess what I was able to do!”

Alicia, still cleaning the house, leans on her broom, “Oh? What did you do today, dear?”

The young girl beams, “I called an Elemental! An Earth one! It looked just like one of those Golems in the textbook!”

Alicia smiles at her daughter, patting her on the head, “Wonderful! Just keep up the hard work, and you’ll be able to do anything you put your mind to!”

At the age of 23, Amber was preparing for her graduation, the youngest student in her class. Her parents, both amazed and proud of her success, urged her to do her best. Amber’s graduation task was to assist, single-handedly, in the cleanup of a massive rockslide that had buried a group of Dwarven miners inside an incomplete tunnel. Using her skills as a summoner, she manages to summon and maintain control over a fully-grown, normal Air Elemental. With the elemental’s assistance and through the use of her own magic spells, she was able to clear the debris and free the trapped dwarves. It was also the first time she ever heard anyone speak of her race in a derogatory tone. One of the dwarves scowled as he was helped to safety.

“Tch.. saved by an elf? No, even worse, a damned half-breed!”

“Half breed?”

“You are, aren’t ya!? I can tell! As if an elf wasn’t bad enough, a human too?”

When she came home, she wasn’t her normal cheerful self, even though she had graduates with flying colors. She was quick to ask her parents about her birth and why the Dwarf had said what he did.

“Well.. not everyone was happy when your mother and I married. You see, elves can be rather racist when it comes to elves marrying humans or people of any other race. They think it’s unclean or unnatural.” her father says.

“But, you’re not either. You’re a brilliant, beautiful, and talented young woman. Don’t ever listen to what anyone has to say about how you look or about your blood. Those kinds of things don’t mean anything. It’s what you do with your life that counts the most.” her mother says.

Amber took her parent’s words to heart. She kept up with her studies in summoning, branching off slightly to learn some spells from the Destruction school of magic. She is still working on her studies, waiting for the day her skills can be put to use. She also helped teach other students of Elemental Summoning, keeping at this for around five years or so. She is still working with her mother, teaching others at the Academy part-time.

Tis’ the main character, aside from the Homunculus.
